Some Historical Background

What is the Blackstone Valley River Corridor?

Blackstone Valley River Corridor is often described as the Birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution.

Where is the Blackstone Valley River Corridor?

The park runs from Worcester, Massachusetts to Providence, Rhode Island and is home to some of the richest history in the United States. This stretch of water housed several textile mills that powered the American Industrial Revolution and helped move the American workforce from farm to factory. It is home to Slater Mill, the first successful water powered cotton-spinning factory in the United States, located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Learn About New England's Past

The Blackstone Valley powered America's entry into the Age of Industry and touched off a chain reaction that changed how people worked and lived in southern New England. Come see how this revolution transformed the both landscape of the Blackstone Valley and the United States.

Rediscover Nature And Wildlife

The Blackstone River is a natural pathway from the southern coast into central New England. Every summer, numbers of "waterfowl" birds such as loons, grebes, cormorants, geese, ducks, coots, and moorhens migrate from their breeding colonies in southern Rhode Island to Worcester, Massaschusetts.

Great way to do some local exploring!

This is a connected series of interesting and unique places. Each time we go, we find a different place that is connected and learn more about the history of the industrial revolution in this area. Definitely worth checking it out. I love to see kids out exploring. Leashed dogs are welcome at most spots.

One of the best rivers to kayak in New England!

Nature is always a great feature on this trip. You can see the fish, butterflies, birds, dragonflies, beaver, turtles and lots of green foliage. There's a museum near the path in Uxbridge too, that teaches about the history of the Blackstone river and it's significance to US industrial revolution.
